Buffalo Soldiers played a pivotal role during the Indian Wars as roughly twenty percent of the U.S. cavalrymen then were Black.  Fighting in over 175 engagements, Indian warriors called them Buffalo Soldiers due to their appearance on the battlefield and combat prowess.  The name symbolized the Native American’s respect for the Buffalo Soldiers’ bravery and valor.

The Buffalo Soldiers National Museum was established  to preserve the history, tradition, and outstanding contributions of the African Americans who have served proudly in every major American conflict from the Revolutionary War to the present.
