Reconstruction Era National Historical Park

Beaufort, South Carolina

Interprets the Reconstruction Era after the Civil War.

The Reconstruction era lasted from the end of the Civil War to 1900.  It was a period in which the U.S.  grappled with the question of how to integrate millions of newly freed African Americans.  Reconstruction Era National Historical Park was first established as Reconstruction Era National Monument in 2017, and re-designated a National Historical Park in 2019.
